Marjorie Taylor Greene is as vile and evil as it gets. This Republican first-time member of the US. House of Representatives is a conspiracy spewer whose beliefs are not limited to the QAnon gang. She wanted Democrats to be executed, particularly Nancy Pelosi. She believed and still believes that many mass school shootings and killings were staged by actors and actually made a video of herself harassing one of the student survivors of the mass shooting Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida, the well known, Michael Hogg. She got elected in her constituency not in spite of the nonsense but because of it. She is a new breed politician - intent on destroying the very democracy that allows her to flourish and peddle lies over and over again. There is more - but you get the picture.
So, let’s cut to the chase - the Democrats voted to remove her from three committees she sat on, one of which was Education, because most of her Republican colleagues (there were a mere ten who voted with the Democrats with one abstention) would no do so, despite her factless, evil and vile beliefs. But fear not - Greene’s days as a successful politician are numbered.
Why?
It is really quite simple - to be seen as an effective politician in the United States Congress you have to do stuff for your constituents. Stuff like adding your own pet projects, ones that the home folks like, to wide-reaching legislation to be voted upon by Congress. This is a given in American politics, as elsewhere, it happens all the time. Politicians will put provisions in these legislative proposals, such as having a hospital built in their congressional district. This is just one example. It’s sleezy pork barrel politics at its best and is most widely practiced way of maintaining one’s base in your constituency. Republicans and Democrats all do it. That is where a politician’s real power resides in federal politics. In order to use the pork barrel technique however, you have to be a member of one or more of these committees. It is in their processes where the deals are made and the goodies are tacked on. And the arrogant Ms. Greene, alas for her career, is gone from all committees. This means she can do nothing for her voters.
But Greene should have known better. She is not the only one to have to face the consequences. For 18 years Steve King, an ultra right-wing, white supremacist, conspiracy believer, pusher and an unreformed Trumper, represented the good folks of Iowa as their elected Republican representative. But then one day he went too far, even for his GOP colleagues, with yet another white supremacist remark. To make a long story short, the Republicans stripped him of all of his committee seats. And that was the end of poor Steve’s political career. When Steve sought to get re-elected in the 2020 GOP primary he lost. His support and funding had dried up and another Republican, one far more acceptable to the local GOP powers that be, got the nod. And that’s what will happen to Trumper Greene.
So, you see, history will repeat itself. And when seeing Greene on TV talking to the press about her loss, she looked haggard, worn out and angry. The poor thing seemed have an inkling that her days are numbered.
